King British Aquatic Plant Food

Overview

King British Aquatic Plant Food contains a mix of essential nutrients to encourage the growth of aquatic plants. It does not contain nitrate or phosphate so will not encourage unwanted algae growth.

As live plants reduce nitrate levels, they also help to inhibit algae growth, ensuring your aquarium water stays crystal clear.

Live plants have many advantages over false ones. Most notably, that during the day they photosynthesise thus contributing to the oxygen levels whilst decreasing the carbon dioxide within your aquarium. They also help to break down the waste that is present in your aquarium from uneaten food and fish waste.

Many aquatic plants can provide a hiding place for smaller fish as well as somewhere to graze.

Eating plants can aid in the prevention of constipation and swim bladder disorders.

Plants in the aquarium are especially beneficial as they provide a constant food source for herbivorous fish that require frequent feeding.

FAQs

  • I'm setting up a 330 litre tank and want a good selection of plants. As it's a high tank I need tall, well established plants.

Initially, you want plants that grow fast (to absorb nutrients), but are easy to control. I would recommend species of Valisineria for the background and Green Cryptocoryne for the foreground. They are undemanding in terms of lighting and water conditions. As your tank matures, and finds it's natural balance with the plants, you can start replacing it with others.
